2G spectrum trail shifted to Tihar jail

The special CBI Judge O.P. Saini, conducting the trail in the 2G spectrum case, today announced the shifting of the trail venue to the Tihar jail premises from tomorrow. He said the decision has been taken for security reasons. Both defense and prosecution lawyers protested the move.

The decision follows an order issued by the Delhi High Court earlier. “Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and judges of this court are pleased to order that the trial of 2G spectrum case shall be held in Tihar Jail court complex from tomorrow,” said the order issued by the Registrar General V.T. Vaish.

All the 14 accused in the case, including the former telecom minister A. Raja and DMK MP Ms Kanimozhi are in the Tihar jail pending the trial.

While the public prosecutor U.U. Lalit said they have already issued summons to the witnesses to appear in Patiala House court complex and the shifting may lead to confusion, lawyers for the accused said they would challenge the order in the high court. (JUB)
