Hyderabad hosts International Conference on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine

The next three years will be very crucial for the nascent stem cell Industry in India as the National Apex Committee for Stem Cell Research and Therapy (NAC-SCRT) has now been set up to formulate regulation. This is expected to fuel innovation, research and commercialization.

The stem cell industry is set for an impetus at the International Conference on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine 2012: Research to Business (Stemcell 2012). An initiative of Federation of Asian Biotechnology Associations (FABA), the conference is to be held at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad from March 22 to 24, 2012.

The event will be inaugurated by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India and will be addressed by Dr. Stephen Minger, a pioneer of the Stem Cell technology and Minister for Major Industries, Sugar, Commerce & Export Promotion, Government of AP, Dr. Geeta Reddy. A white paper on 'Stem Cell: Transforming Global Medicine and Healthcare Industry' by FABA and YES Bank Limited will be released on the occasion. The conference will feature over 40 renowned international speakers, including Dr. Lukas Utigar of Lonza Bioscience, Prof. Mahendra S Rao of Center for Regenerative Medicine, NIH, USA, and Dr. Mohan Vemuri of Life Technologies, USA. The Stemcell 2012 showcases the status of trials in stem cell therapies, latest research, regulatory laws, cutting-edge technologies and business opportunities in the industry with a clear focus on therapeutics. The participants include doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs from the fields of Medicine and Biotechnology, investors, government officials and members of various fraternities from different countries. A key activity is the 'one-on-one 'business meetings that would accelerate transparences for commercialization and industry growth with specific opportunities for networking, funding and forging new alliances.

The conference will act as a platform for sharing perspectives and ideas on research, and various challenges in the industry with commercial applications. It will provide an opportunity to forge mutually beneficial relationships. It will also help Overseas and Indian Companies to form Global tie-ups with their counterparts across the world. "From an international viewpoint, the event will be a gateway of information and ingress point to Indian Stem Cell Business world and vice versa," said Dr. B S Bajaj, convener and secretary general, FABA. The organizers expect investment and technological partnership tie-ups during this conference.
