May reports record sales for liquor in Telangana:- Most of the states headed for a complete or partial lockdown to control the spread of the second wave of coronavirus. Telangana topped the list of liquor sales for the month of May. The state is facing partial lockdown and the restrictions are lifted from 6 AM to 10 AM on a regular basis in the month of May. The state was under lockdown for 20 days in May and the lockdown continues in June in Telangana. The daily needs like milk and mutton are badly hit in sales because of the lockdown and the financial crisis. But the liquor sales had a record in the state. The state government earned Rs 2129 crores in the month of May which is 6 percent lower than the revenue that is generated in May 2020 which is Rs 2270 crores. The liquor shops opened after 44 days of lockdown in last May because of which the sales reported a new record.

The liquor sales in May this year are higher than the sales in Dasara season which is high usually. The sale was Rs 2115 crores in Telangana during Dasara last year. As per the reports, 33.23 lakh beer cases are sold in May 2020 and the sales improved badly in May after a normal April. The daily sales are at least 44 percent higher than most of the days in May. With a worry that the Telangana government will head for a complete lockdown, most of them had kept a stock of liquor at their homes because of which the sales went up. With strict lockdown imposed, people are left with no option except to booze. The prices of liquor too has been hiked in the state last year.
