Elon Musk Calls For UNSC Changes:- Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter, recently called for the revision of United Nations bodies, emphasizing that certain issues, such as India not having a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, are absurd. Musk argued that countries with excess power are reluctant to give it up and that Africa, as a collective entity, should also have a permanent seat in the UN.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has also advocated for reforms in the UN to reflect the current global landscape. He highlighted the fact that Africa still lacks a single permanent member in the Security Council and stressed the need for institutions to align with the realities of today, rather than those of 80 years ago.

India, a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for eight terms, has been pushing for permanent membership with the backing of the G4 nations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar acknowledged the growing global support for India's permanent seat and emphasized that sometimes such opportunities need to be seized rather than given generously.

Jaishankar expressed concern in September 2023 that the UN's reluctance to reform its structure could make the organization anachronistic. He used the analogy of passengers on a bus, implying that certain permanent members of the UN Security Council were hindering progress and suggesting that alternative solutions may be sought.

These statements from influential figures like Elon Musk and Jaishankar shed light on the need for reforms within the UN, particularly in terms of representation and decision-making power. There seems to be a growing consensus that the current structure of the UN does not fully reflect the realities of the world today and that changes are necessary to address this issue.
