Odisha Government Files Affidavit Against Polavaram Project:- The Government of Odisha approached the Supreme Court to stop the construction work of the Polavaram project. In a 71-page affidavit, Odisha government mentioned that the state has a higher risk of floods as it stays beside Andhra Pradesh. It asked the Supreme Court to suspend the stay for the orders that are issued on July 10th, 2018 and June 27th 2018. The government of Andhra Pradesh already informed the tribunal about the floods after the construction of the Polavaram project. IIT Roorkee conducted a survey and said that 58 lakh cusecs is expected for floods in Odisha.

The Sabari and Seelur areas of Odisha will be badly affected said the survey. Odisha government wants the Polavaram project to be completely suspended as the state would be at flood risk. The backwaters in the region too will be damaged in the future argues Odisha government. Sasmat Patra, Odisha MP spoke about this in Rajya Sabha recently and asked the Centre to look into the matter. The Supreme Court is yet to take a call on this.
