Mumbai’s Heavy Rains Claim 5 Lives, CM Asks People To Stay Indoors:- Mumbai witnessed moderate to low rainfall in parts of Mumbai on Wednesday morning. Due to the heavy incessant downpour, five people were killed in Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday.

A 32-year old woman and a teenage girl lost their life in Thane. The women fell into a ‘nullah’ filled with rainwater in Kalwa and drowned, whereas the 14-year old teenager identified as Gauri Jaliwar died after falling into a swollen drain near a mall in Thane. Another tragedy stuck in suburban Vikhroli, where three people, including two minors were killed in two house collapse incidents.

A whopping 298 mm of rainfall, was recorded by the city, the highest in a day in August since 1997. To this effect, schools and colleges will be closed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted to say that people in and around Mumbai are “advised to stay back home unless there is an emergency” but “essential services” will be up.

In most of the lines in Mumbai, local train services have resumed, while more buses have been pressed in for the convenience of people who are still stranded. After heavy downpour, flights which were either delayed or canceled on Tuesday are plying as per schedule on Wednesday.

“Operations are normal at Mumbai Airport as of now,” Mumbai Airport Public Relations Officer said.

After the incessant rain and water logging on Tuesday, people have parked their cars on roads. Several houses were damaged. Heavy rains were witnessed by the city, in which several trees were uprooted and vehicles washed away. The low-lying areas also experienced flooding due to the downpour.
