Central Election Commission Orders Action Against Jagan’s Shoot CM Remarks

Central Election Commission Orders Action Against Jagan’s Shoot CM Remarks:- The Central Election Commission (CEC) has ordered strict action against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. Jagan is in the limelight for his controversial remark he made at an election meeting in Nandyal Assembly constituency.

Jagan during the meeting remarked that “there is nothing wrong if (Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister) N Chandrababu Naidu is shot dead on the road.” The Commission now took the “Shoot CM” remarks very seriously. The comments by Jagan are in violation of the Election Code of Conduct. The CEC expressing reservations over Jagan’s comments directed the state election commission sleuths to initiate action immediately.

It may be recalled that Jagan during public address said “shoot CM on the streets for failing to fulfil pre-election promises” and later during roadshow said “it is not wrong to hang people like Chandrababu who utter lies and fail to keep up their promises.”

Initially, a complaint was lodged by the TDP leaders with the state election commission. However, the subtle response from the local officials made the TDP leaders knock the doors of CEC. The complain with CEC was filed by TDP MPs Ram Mohan Naidu, Nimmala Kishtappa along with others. The CEC, following the complaint, scrutinized Jagan’s comments and accordingly directed State Election Commission officials to take immediate action.
