ABVP complaints against JNU official, for permitting Afzal Guru event

Showing their negative signs on the JNU issue, the ABVP filed two police complaints against the university’s associate dean got permitting controversial Afzal Guru event and professor Nivedita Menon for her alleged remarks, justifying pro-azadi slogans on Kashmir.

JNU Students' Union Joint Secretary Saurabh Sharma, the lone ABVP member in the union, lodged a complaint at Vasant Kunj police station, Delhi.

In his complaint, Sharma has given statements attributing it to Menon.

“Everyone knows that India is illegally occupying Kashmir. It is said the world over. Everybody accepts (it),” one of the statements in the complaint read.

“This attracts criminal prosecution and appropriate action must be taken in this regard,” Sharma said.

"I request you to kindly take strong action against the concerned authority that had given permission and silently supported February 9th programme," Sharma said, in the complaint against Afzal Guru event in JNU.

The Joint Secretary further alleged that he already complained to the JNU administration, but as they took no action, he approached police.

15 minutes before the event was to start, the university had taken back the permission, after Sharma had complained about the event on February 9th, but the organizers had gone ahead with the programme.

However, associate dean was unavailable to respond on the issue, but Nivedita Menon, a JNU professor, said, “I don't believe anything I said was anti-national”.

Police officials confirmed that the two complaints have been received but no FIR has been registered yet.
