New districts in Telangana soon

The Telangana state cabinet has approved to create the new districts in the state, by reorganizing the existing 10 districts, in line with the national population average.

Yesterday, the state cabinet has decided to set up a committee headed by the chief secretary and comprising Revenue officials, to suggest the number of new districts, that need to be created in the state.

Speaking about this, Telangana Chief Minister KCR said, “For setting up a district, the national population average is 19 lakh now. But, as per 2011 Census, in Telangana state, the average stands at 35 lakh, and the state’s population is 3.5 crore with 10 districts. This necessitates the creation of new districts for administrative and public convenience.”
