Facebook, the popular social networking site, reportedly conquers 125 million users in India.

As of December 2014, the FB had 113 million users in the country. But just within six months, the US-based firm has managed to add another 13 million users to its count and reaches a magical figure 125. As of March 31, 2015, globally, the FB has 1.44 billion monthly active users, where the US is considered as the biggest market.

To cater the users of slow internet connection, FB has introduced a 2G-friendly mobile app 'Facebook Lite', which was found very helpful for the growth of the business.

Speaking to the media, Facebook Head of Products (Facebook Lite) Vijay Shankar said that, "In India, Facebook has 125 million average users (MAU), while the number of mobile MAUs stands at 114 million. On a daily basis, 59 million users in India are accessing Facebook and 53 million are accessing us from their mobile phones."

What is Facebook Lite?

Facebook Lite is not less to the standard App. It is just that something, which works, even in the countries like India, where the internet speed is slow, compared to the other countries.
    
It will feature all core functions of FB like news feed, messaging, photos, links and notifications among others, except the videos on the news feed. It even allows the users to select the quality of images, they see on their news feed to optimize the data consumption.

Fortunately, both Facebook Lite and the standard Facebook app will work on a single device at the same time.

"In India, over 80 per cent of the users are on 2G network. We have worked on improving the apps performance even on spotty connections and across devices from entry-level devices to high-end ones, it is going to be rolled out in other markets in coming weeks,” Shankar said.
