Former PM Vajpayee Turned 89 Today

Atal Behari Vajpayee, Former Prime Minsiter of India and senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party was born on December 25, 1924 in Gwalior.

He became Prime Minister after the Congress Government has lost in the general elections in 1996 to BJP when PV Narasimharao was the PM.  Vajpayee swore in as the 11th Prime Minister of India but held office only for 13 days as the required support could not be obtained.  Then again he became Prime Minister on March 19 1998 to hold it for the entire term till May 19, 2004 till BJP led NDA lost in the elections to Congress to form Government leading UPA.

He also worked as Minister for External Affairs between 1977 and 1979 when Morarji Desai was the Prime Minister.

As the 89 years old statesman is ailing for the long time, he is confined to his official residence.  The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited him and wished him on his birth day.  BJP President Rajnath Singh, senior leaders L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj, BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi many other leaders of BJP have visited Vajpayee’s place.

Many political leaders and party men have been thronging Vajpayee’s residence since morning to wish him on his birthday.

The BJP State President Kishan Reddy distributed fruits at Sarojinidevi Eye Hospital at Mehadipatnam on the occasion of Vajpayee's birth day.  He praised that Vajpayee is a leader India should be proud of.
