How This Year Gandhi Jayanthi is Special?

Today is the 144th birth anniversary of the father of the nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi- popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi!  He was born on 2nd October 1869 at Porbandar, Gujaraj.  Gandhi’s saintly nature and non-violence approaches shook the British Government during the days of freedom fight and compelled them to leave India.  In the memory of the Great leader entire country salutes him and pays tributes to him.

In fact remembering a great departed soul gives us an opportunity to remember his virtues and while doing so our minds are supposed to adapt some of those virtues at least till the memory is fresh before plunging in to the daily busy chores and make them disappear gradually to recharge next year.  As usual Rajghat the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Delhi is visited by the VIPs as per protocol.  Schools and Government offices are closed.  Liquor vending and slaughtering is prohibited today.  All these things are going as every year but some things are also different this year.

Every year, some of the prisoners will be freed on this day.  But this year it is not happening.  Although the Government passed GO 5 days ago for the release of the prisoners, delay happened in making the list of eligible prisoners for their release.  The relatives of the prisoners expecting release are disappointed.  IG of Jails Sunil Kumar assured that the list will be finalized by 26th of this month.

Another speciality is the tussel between the Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi because of the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi on the recent ordinance passed regarding convicted people’s representatives.  Rahul Gandhi’s calling it as total nonsense made internal problems in the Congress party.  As such Rahul is going to meet Manmohan Singh at 9.45 am to solve the issue.

After that, the core committee will meet at 10.30 am including Sonia Gandhi.  Dr.Manmohan Singh apparently is not happy with the remarks of Rahul Gandhi.  But sources say that Ordinance may not be favored to be withdrawn by the party.  Even if it does, Manmohan Singh will not go against the party’s opinion and the party’s opinion solely depends on Sonia Gandhi’s opinion.

Congress allies are also angry with the remarks of Rahul undermining the decision of the UPA led Government.  They are also planning to have showdown in the UPA Coordination committee meeting.

Sonia Gandhi has taken up the role of making peace between Rahul and Manmohan Singh.

That way today’s birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is special for Sonia Gandhi to bringh peace in the party especially between his son Rahul and the PM who was made by her.
