The Hyderabad police today arrested Akkineni Amala for putting up a banner on the heritage structure Charminar. She along with Green Peace activists were taken into custody after they protested over the coal mining. On her banner, it was written that Indian forests should be preserved. After Charminar police arrested and shifted her to station, she was released on personal bond.

It may be noted that Akkineni Amala is wife of noted actor Nagarjuna. She earlier appeared in south films before she married Nagarjuna. She is Blue Cross president and fights issues in the society. Amala recently made a reentry into films with Sekhar Kammula's Life Is Beautiful.

Since the international bio-diversity meet is going and with thousands of international delegates coming down to Hyderabad for attending the meet, the activists might have thought this would be the right time for making their point. The police, however, immediately plunged into the action and arrested the activists.
