The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday summoned the Bollywood actress Genelia to appear before the court in connection with a real estate company that cheated the public.
It may be recalled that Anjaniputra Infrastructure Company in Malleshwaram mandal of Rangareddy district (Hyderabad) was collecting money from people promising them plots. The company appointed actress Genelia (who was also popular in Tollywood) as its brand ambassador. After collecting huge amounts from several customers, Anjaniputra Infrastructure Company rolled down the shutters permanently giving no clue about the management.
The customers, on noticing that they were taken for a ride by the company, earlier approached the High Court. The court, after taking up the case, has ordered the Nampally police to file cases against seven accused including the brand ambassador Genelia.
Today, a person named Tirupathayya again approached the court stating that the name of Genelia was not included in the FIR. The court immediately served notices to Genelia and asked her to appear before the court.
The complainant was of the opinion that he had invested in Anjaniputra Infrastructure Company looking at the brand ambassador. Otherwise he wouldn’t have invested in that company, he added. He alleged Genelia’s role in the cheating. (Phani)
