‘A Separation’ wins first Oscar award for Iran in foreign category

Iranian film, A Separation, which is based on a story of family drama, won the first Oscar award for the country in the foreign film category. The award comes at a time when tensions are raising high between Iran and the US over Iran’s nuclear programme.

The film, directed by Asghar Farhadi, defeated several films from Israel, Belgium, Poland and Canada to bring the first international glory to Iranian cinema.
Earlier, the film also won the best foreign film at the Golden Globes. Director Farhadi was nominated for a best screenplay Oscar.
Soon after hearing the news, he said the award goes to the great people of his country who respect all cultures and civilizations despite hostilities.
The film explores social tendencies like divorce and themes of honour, love, lies and deceit.
