Acharya gets 15 days in jail

Even as the Government suspended the senior IAS officer Mr BP Acharya from service, the
CBI court today extended his judicial remand till Feb 15.

As Acharya, who had been admitted to the NIMS Wednesday morning, was discharged from the hospital around 9 PM last night, the CBI produced him before the court today following which the remand was extended.

Acharya’s lawyer told the court that his client was forcefully discharged from the NIMS at the instance of the CBI officials. “Acharya was not feeling well. Still he was discharged at the instance of CBI,” counsel told the court.

Denying the allegation, the CBI counsel told the Judge Nagamaruthi Sarma that even the media was also telecasting false news on this. “The allegation is wrong. Media also is telecasting the false news,” argued the CBI counsel.

The judge was angered at this. “Don’t argue here quoting media and newspaper stories,” directed the Judge. “Argue based on facts,” the court counseled.

Inadvertently, the lawyer again referred to the media stories and the judge expressed his anger openly this time. “Kindly don’t waste the valuable time with your irrelevant arguments,” he told the CBI lawyer angrily.

The judge also asked, “Where is your officer Lakshminarayana?” and observed: he should be present on occasions like this.

The judge asked the counsel for Acharya not to worry about his client’s health. “The jail authorities will take care of him,” he said. (JUBS)
