Kuldip Nayar opposes Telangana

Veteran journalist Mr Kuldip Nayar said today that Andhra Pradesh should remain united for the sake of its progress and development.

Participating in a meeting in Delhi as a chief guest, Mr Nayar said that the Government should appoint the second States’ Reorganization Commission (SRC) to decide on the demands for smaller states. “It is high time the Government appointed the second SRC,” he said, adding that smaller states would impose burden on the Centre which would not be in the interests of the country.

Speaking on the demand for separate Telangana state, Nayar said he was basically against dividing the state of AP. “It should not be divided if it wants progress and development,” said Nayar answering a question.

He said the Centre had committed a faux pas on the Telangana issue. “First, it announced Telangana but later it backtracked,” Nayar observed finding fault with the government on the issue.

“I am against formation of Telangana but in case Telangana is a must, Hyderabad should be made union territory,” Nayar suggested. (JUBS)
