Police Failed to Arrest Tahelka Editor Tejpal

The Goa Police equipped with a non-bailable warrant in the case of sexual assault on his colleague woman journalist could not find him at his Delhi residence at Jangpura in South Delhi. The police went to his residence at about 6 am and spent 3 hours there.  His wife Geetan Batra refused to tell his whereabouts.  After searching for Tarun Tejpal at the places he possibly must be taking shelter, the police ultimately returned Goa empty handed. The joint attempt of Delhi and Goa police to find him at his relatives’ places also was not fruitful.

The Goa police moved the court for non-bailable warrant against Tejpal in spite of his fax message to them that he will appear before them on Friday. The police after getting the fax also stuck to the stipulated time of 3.00 pm on Thursday to appear before them. A request of Tejpal through advocate to extend the time was rejected by them.

Tejpal’s lawyer also told the police that Tejpal will present himself at Goa before the police and extend full cooperation from his side to the investigating officers.

In the meanwhile police have taken the victim to the fivestar hotel in Bambolim where the crime occurred to do panchnama and to reconstruct the crime on 7 and 8th November.  No visitors were allowed into the hotel during entire day on Thursday by the hotel managers.
