The accident was brought into prominence by the police that eight children along with three adults experienced drowning when their boat overturned in a flooded river in eastern India. Navin Kumar Singh, a police officer expressed saying that the relatives having distressed mentally gathered on the banks of the Kosi river as rescue team dragged out the bodies on Friday.

Mr Singh added that the victims were coming back home on Thursday night from a village across the river where they accompanied a relative's funeral. On the other hand, another fact remains that 24 people swam to safety in Madhepura district which is 340 kilometers northeast of the Bihar state capital Patna.
