France’s highest civilian award for Amartya Sen!

The French president Mr Francois Hollande will arrive in Paris next week and will confer France’s highest civilian award, the Legion of Honour, on Mr Sen at a public function to be held in Teen Murti Bhavan on 15 February.

The prestigious honour is the reason for his enormous contribution to the field of economics and for his exchanges with French academic institutions would also be recognised.

In fact, Mr Hollande’s visit to India is likely to see the French fighter jet, Rafale, on top of the agenda when the French President meets Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and that in an interesting change, India will be according the French President’s companion, Ms Valerie Trierweiler, the status of a spouse, overcoming the protocol rules.
