DMK issues notice to LS on CAG report

Under the rule 193 on CAG report on the 2G scam, DMK, an ally of Congress has issued a notice to the Lower house for discussion. The notice comes on the heels of the claims of RP Singh, the ex- CAG officer who said that the report was influenced by a BJP leader who was also the Public Accounts Committee Chairman, Murli Manohar Joshi. According to Singh, Mr Joshi had invited the audit officials to his home for the preparation of the PAC report on the 2G scam which accuses the government.

Joshi was strong on his stand as he also offered to resign if they could prove the allegations leveled against him. RP Singh however said that he was asked to sign on the audit report on 2010 which has estimated the losses at Rs 1.76 lakh due to the spectrum sale though Singh said that his estimates were only at Rs 2,645 crores. He also said that it was due to the pressure from the superiors that he had to sign the report. There were charges and counter charges between BJP and and the Congress and the Union Ministers latched on to Singh's claims to attack BJP and Joshi.

Singh however soon turned the tables completely by saying that he was misquoted by the media which made the initial report. "I do remember there is documentary evidence where it is stated that a member of the PAC had asked to calculate losses using a particular formula. I cannot confirm the name, but I confirm the content (evidence)," he said.
