Flood strike Assam for the third time

The last wave of floods in Assam was not the last as the state is now submerged in the third deluge following the rains that cease to stop. The levels of the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries have risen beyond the danger levels.

Heavy rains in the catchment areas especially in the areas of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Kamrup have been the reason for the flooding of the residential land and the croplands.

Brahmaputra at few areas like the Nematighat, Jia Bhoroli, Gai Nadi and Singora have been recorded to be at a higher than danger level. This has displaced at least one lakh people who have been affected in the 82 villages. The village administration of the districts have been ordered to provide relief and rehabilitation to the victims.

However, no deaths have been reported yet, according to sources.

In Kakodanga river there were two breaches and a bridge post was damaged in Gelabil Selseli river was noticed to be damaged.

The floods this year were notably the worst-ever since 10 years in Assam after 126 people were killed in the two waves of the flood initially. The inundation had also killed 631 animals in the Kaziranga National Park to be killed too.
