Toppers in IITs to join their siblings

Ask the students of this generation as to which is the most sought after destination for their higher studies, they would say IIT in any part of India. Probably this could be one of the reasons as to why so many IIT toppers every year have their siblings or cousins pursuing the courses at IIT. The scenario seems to be unchanged this year too!

R Nishant, who secured All India Rank 5th, has a sister who is studying a dual degree course at IIT Bombay and Nishant aims at the same institution be it due to the global recognition or to stay along with his sister. Nishant who hails from Kamareddy  of Nizamabad district comes from a family of high aspirations. His father is also an engineer who studied at the prestigious Osmania University and secured a gold medal. He is currently working as Superintendent Engineer in Warangal Municipal Corporation.

Sai Krishna, who managed to clinch 12th All India Rank in IIT-JEE 2012, has a brother who studies at Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. This young person from Uttar Pradesh now wants to join his brother at IIT. The surprising part of Sai Krishna is that he’s the youngest person in the state who has pulled up his sox to go to IIT. The 16-year-old person was directly promoted from eight class to tenth standard and his age would not be a constraint at IIT as IITs have liberal policy.

Notably, most of the students who secured top ranks in IITs this year come from an urban background and their families are well-educated unlike the students who appeared for joint entrance examination earlier. The reports indicate that the right parent guidance and support from the teachers are one the majority factors of motivation among these students.   (Phani)
