Musharraf masterminded Benazir killing

Pakistani television channel Waqt News said today that the deposed military ruler Pervez Musharraf was behind the assassination of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

Quoting the report of probe conducted by the interior ministry into the assassination, the channel said Musharraf used two police officers and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan leader Baitullah Mehsud in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

The channel said Musharraf established an assassination cell in room number 96 of Haqqania madrassa in Akora Khattak to plan the murder and the plan was carried out with the help of students of the seminary and the two top police officers who were loyal to Musharraf.

Benazir Bhutto, a two-time Pak Prime Minister was assassinated on December 27, 2007 by the al-Qaeda.
The channel said the probe report found the role of 16 terrorists in the assassination. Of these, five, including two top cops, have been arrested, six have been killed and three are at large.

Denying the allegations, Musharraf’s All-Pakistan Muslim League said the probe was a wasteful exercise. “It is a baseless report,” said a functionary of the party. (JUBS)
