Mamatha threatens to pull out over petro hike

Criticizing the UPA Government for not consulting them before hiking the fuel prices on Thursday, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee today threatened to pull out of the UPA alliance if the petrol price is hiked repeatedly.

Addressing media persons in Delhi this evening, Mamatha said that her party was not consulted before the petrol price was hiked by nearly Rs.2 per liter by the Centre.

“If the prices are linked to global crude prices, why are the prices not coming down when the international market prices are coming down” she asked the Government. She said she would meet the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Nov 8 or 9 after his return from Cannes and discuss the issue.

She said her party MPs have decided to withdraw support to the Government if the Government continues to hike the petrol prices. “Somebody must bell the cat," Mamata said.  She however clarified they are part of the UPA government as of now.
