Gun Metal is the latest fashion in Emmys September 24, 2012 16:24

Emmy's Red Carpet was speckled with a new trend that sparked out of the blue. Stars donning Gun Metal gowns were source of the extreme heat at the show. Revenge's Emily VanCamp (adept at styling anything gray to suit her best), 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski, Elementary's Lucy Liu, American Horror Story star Connie Britton and Homeland's Morena Baccarin were all seen wearing gown in grey, made of Gun Metal. Britton sported a beaded halter dress with gold trimmings gave her a refined look. She plays a country superstar in Nashville's new series. Baccarin's ruffle-accented strapless gown by Basil Soda is up for best performance by a plunging vee, and Hendricks' gowns ( this time by Christian Siriano) always deserve special Emmys for their, should we say?, supporting roles. Is your office making you smoke? September 24, 2012 11:04

Do you belong to the cult of office smokers? If yes, then the news is bad. Your office might be the topmost reason why you smoke. According to many experts, workplace smoking impacts the smoking habit of employees, and not to forget the health of active and passive smokers. Even though, the ban on public place smoking came into force in October 2008, India still hasn't made great progress when it comes to curtailing the high levels of tobacco addiction. And when contemporary workplaces give rise to an increase in smokers, then the issue calls for instant attention. Thus, in a bid to find out if your office contributes to your smoking habit and what solutions you can seek, we asked Dr. Munish Kr. Sachdeva and Dr. K.K Pandey some questions. This is what they had to say... 1 What do you think about the claim that workplaces induce smoking for some?Dr. K.K Pandey: Working conditions like crowded places, stressful atmosphere, a bossy manager and loads of work promotes addiction and the easiest one is smoking. When the workplace environment is stressful, it evokes anxiety among its employees. People, who are in the habit of smoking, will immediately go to smoke. For them, this smoking break is perceived as a stress reliever.Dr. Munish Kr. Sachdeva: If your office is a no-smoking zone, then at least by force you are bound to not smoke for at least 8 hours, which really helps in reducing the smoking habit. 2 Conversations that start with 'let's go for a smoke break' and 'would you like to join me for a smoke' are common at the workplace. What do you make of this?Dr. K.K Pandey: Such invitations are a common show of friendship and fellowship. On the other hand, if you have 5 people in a team and only one smokes, then that surely is no motivation for the single person to go ahead for the smoking break. 3 As the workplace is getting younger and more cosmopolitan, there is a rise in the numbers of women smokers. What do you think are the reasons for the same?Dr. K.K Pandey: The reasons for the rise in women smokers are the same as the reasons for the rise in male smokers. Odd working hours, change in food habits, surging stress levels, peer pressure and many more. But yes in today's times, stress levels among girls are even higher , which ranges from controlled home environment to an abrupt shift to the free environment. 4 People are more likely to smoke when they have company? How true is this statement? Dr. K.K Pandey: Yes absolutely. If they have company, they are all the more likely to smoke. Dr. Munish Kr. Sachdeva: 80% people smoke in company, remaining 20% have many other reasons to smoke alone. Dr. Munish Kr. Sachdeva is the Liver & Endoscopist Specialist at Ganga Ram Hospital and Prof & Dr. K.K Pandey is the HOD of Oncology and Cancer Surgery department at Rockland Hospital, New Delhi.

Transform with flow dreaming September 18, 2012 10:08

Sometimes we want to change certain situations in life. We all want to manifest a perfect romantic life, peaceful financially abundant self, a successful position in a multinational... the list goes on. Flow dreaming is a technique that helps you alter your life. It is unique in its own way. It makes you realise your own powers, by going through a creative, changeable yet hidden aspect of your life. Here, flow is the movement of energy that moves smoothly in our universe. It is an energy of information that is, was or potentially may exist. Flow dreaming is all about flow of information about your personal situation. All we need to do is manage this information with our mind in a positive way. It is similar to quantum interconnectedness, where every thought that comes to our mind affects the topic we are thinking about. How many times has it happened that you think of calling a friend and she calls? The knock at the door you just sensed a moment before it happened! It symbolises that somehow the incidents in our life are connected with our thoughts. Your conscious mind is the part of the flow of energy. When you think something and it happens, it’s because of the emotions attached with the connection. Mostly, we pass each day of our life by not paying any attention to the thoughts, emotions we are sending into our flow. All day we are busy managing the physical form, not giving a single thought to the internal form. Flow responds to our thoughts and desires. Thus, we can shape the the flow of information by putting our emotions to it. All you need to do is convince yourself of the flow of thoughts that the brain creates. When you daydream, you detach yourself from the physical world. Instead of making yourself unaware, in flow dreaming you pay attention to the flow of thoughts - similar to daydreaming with open eyes - and alter them accordingly. Daydream - imagine your thoughts fully aligned with your internal self. Hold on to it and feel the direction it is moving towards. This is the creation part of flow dreaming. Let your mind feel it. This phase is different from meditation. Do not clear your mind. Open it, see and feel the thought. Now add feelings to your thoughts. The flow responds to emotions. If you feel joy, your flow becomes joyous. If you feel gloomy, it becomes gloomy. If you feel happy, the universe gets a chance to manifest it for you. It responds to even the minutest of the emotions. At times one might be a little hesitant because of our conscious state of mind. Relax. Just feel the emotions along with the actual things you desire for. Sense the happiness. Just follow the flow of emotions. Flow takes care of how, when and where. With the help of emotions you create a blueprint of your desires. Do it everyday. Speak the language of positive emotion. And the rest happens!

What Your Car Says About You? September 17, 2012 11:08

Love Cars? They are a passion for many. But did you know that your car can say a lot about your personality? You must have known that the colour that you wear is in itself a manifestation of the person you are. And it is not always the budget that makes you choose a car. There are many more things that shape it. Let's see what your favourite car says about your personality. The Black Huge One- This shows that you have a huge and indomitable spirit. People who like such cars have a classic taste and like all things to be done in an elegant and graceful way. They are also generally of very dominating nature and like things their own way. Thus if this happens to be your favourite car then your personality is similar to the above mentioned character traits. Red One- The colour red depicts a vibrant personality. But there are two categories here. People who love closed hooded cars are the ones having a boisterous personality, but at the same time they do not like to show off this trait of their character in front of everyone. If such a red car is your favourite then you are the one who generally shows off their true colour only within their comfort zones. But if you like a open hooded car then you are an out and out extrovert who can go around with almost all kinds of people. White Car- This is a car of a cool personality and temperament. People who love white cars have a sober personality. They are also very particular and love to see cleanliness maintained around them. This colour reflects your personality as you are generally very reserved and like honest opinions. It is thus very hard to impress them or make them happy. Golden and Silver Cars- People who like such cars have a dazzling personality. They are generally very stylish and have a glitz about them. People who love cars as such are most of the times completely in love with the glam quotient. And at the same time they do not like much fussing around them. Blue Cars- If you are in love with a blue car then you definitely the cool headed one. You also know how to take control of a situation and handle it in a calm and pacified manner. People as such are also very much of the romantic demeanor and charming. If a blue car is your favourite then you are one of the same personality as mentioned above. Thus we see how your favourite car depicts your personality. Which one is yours favourite?

Do you really find the needed LOVE in your partner??? September 15, 2012 10:22

Some one Waiting for partner...It is not just about finding the LOVE in your partner, the most important aspect that binds two people together in a relationship is that LOVE from both the ends. If you really want to know your partner is really in LOVE with you, not just in messages or gifts but in with YOU your LIFE and always… here are some signs you can observe in your partner; This sign is all about the body language. If he looks into your eyes when you talk, you know he is paying full attention to you. Obviously, this is not always practical for every conversation, especially if you are driving somewhere. However, whenever you really want to have a heart to heart discussion, he gives you his full attention, by turning his body towards you, and watching the expression on your face. This is a sign he wants to know what you are really thinking. If your boyfriend asks about your past, your dreams, your desires (not just sexual), your wants, your needs, how you feel inspired, what you love, or anything about you that relates to your thoughts intimately as an individual, you can be very sure that he wants what is best for you. This is a very good indication he loves you. While touch is more important to some people than others, casual touches that are not necessarily sexual in nature are definitely signs he is letting you know that he loves you. If he wants to hold your hand when you walk anywhere together, you can be sure he is saying with his body language that he wants to be with you. This is one of the most important indicators of a relationship that will stand the test of time. If you feel you can automatically turn to him when 'times are tuff', and he is able to give you comfort and help you to feel better, not worse, you have a guy who really loves you. If he gets uncomfortable when you are upset, or doesn't know what will comfort you, he is not really putting you first in the relationship. If he at least tries to comfort you, there is hope for the future. Giving you compliments about how beautiful you look is one way he will make you to feel special. It may just be that simple phone call, an email, or even a formal love letter. Whatever he does, he wants to give you pleasure and to build you up as a person. He wants to make you feel like you are the most wonderful woman in the world. You actually look forward to spending time with him, because you know you will have fun. Being able to laugh together and have fun is part of every good relationship. If he cannot share the joy of life with you easily, he won't be able to cope with the hard times that will inevitably come your way too. Even in the difficult times, he somehow can make you smile, through your tears. This is because he loves you and wants you to be happy. He gets a joy from seeing the excitement and pleasure in your expression, so he works to make you laugh. He treats you as his best friend. He can be quite happy spending time with just the two of you, and doesn't have to have a million other people around all the time. He makes excuses to see you, and just thoroughly enjoys being around you. He tells you his own thoughts, dreams, and is able to share ideas with you comfortably. He also turns to you when he is sad, or needs comfort too. Okay, it can be very easy to say those three words "I love you", but if he says it when you are not expecting it, or if he says it first, he wants to tell you that he really cares about you. If he only says I love you when he wants to be physically intimate with you, or if you always say it first, and he only says it in reply, because that is what you expect, he may not really care deeply. He may not even need to say the words, because he knows you know how he feels about you, but just has to say it anyway. If you see evidence of these ten signs in your relationship, and you know the signs are done without purpose or gain, your relationship is built on the foundation of true love. You can be sure of your relationship when he truly wants to please you, and honestly shows that he enjoys being with you in many ways.

Today is Global Female Condom Day September 13, 2012 12:56

Female Condoms, the name sounds familiar but highly under-appreciated. It has been a long while since the Female Condoms had been introduced in the market under the brand name "Velvet". However, their use has been noted to be less than 1% of all the condoms that are out for sale today in the world. Social acceptability of this innovation, which is a potential alternative to the male condoms, or simply condoms as we call them today, is far too less. Another reason for the social status is the name. Female condoms are not intended just for the females. It was an idea to lower the risk of STD's in gay people. The acceptance of such an orientation in the society is far too low in India too. Velvet has sold only 36,000 units in the last year while the conventional condom sale could be at least 100 times higher. HLL Lifecare along with the British Female Health Company has been into the production of the female condoms since six years. They are the only female condoms approved for sale in India by the World Health Organization too. The HLL Lifecare Chairman and Managing Director M. Ayyappan spoke on the eve of the Global Female Condom day saying that the company would make efforts to increase the awareness among the people and promote the product with roadshows, seminars and special stalls. "Now our job is to hold awareness campaigns that will highlight this product. We are basically looking to empower women because they have to take the lead. And we will do it," Ayyappan said. Today a packet of Velvet that contains three pieces costs Rs.100 in the open market and HLL gets Rs.24 per piece for its supplies to NACO. (AW- Anil)

Eco-friendly wallpapers for your home September 12, 2012 11:22

Conservation of environment reads like a fashion statement these days or so it seems. We celebrate the Earth Hour one Saturday every year to let ourselves believe we have done our duty toward saving the planet. We definitely need to be a little more involved in the environment saving project. Charity begins at home they say, so why not decorate our homes in a way that does not threaten but protect the ecological system from collapsing? By simply choosing the right fabric, non-toxic paints and other decor articles that are eco-friendly and encourage use of recycled materials, we can make a difference by going organic in home decor. Interior designer Meenakshi Agrawal tells us how to design our homes while keeping our eco-consciousness intact. She gives out useful tips on selecting wooden furnishing, wallpapers, flooring and centrepieces for an overall classy home decor while promoting the mantra of going green as well. She talks to us about a unique eco-friendly wall decor concept, 'DecorCoat' that she with her partner has introduced in the market as a viable alternative to paints and wallpapers for home renovation. Wallpaper designs and patterns There are diverse options when it comes to choosing wallpapers. Designs like classic retro prints, metallic geometrics, botanical prints and those that mimic the look of natural landscapes are among the popular trends this season, informs our expert. When asked how DecorCoat is different from and advantageous than ordinary wall decor methods, Meenakshi explains, "Normal wallpapers have VOC i.e. Volatile Organic Compounds. These are chemicals that we smell when wallpapers are applied; it adds to the indoor air pollution and directly affects our health. Organic wall decor on the other hand is low on VOC. These are made up of grass cloth and cotton fiber that do not have a negative impact on the environment. DecorCoat is a substitute of wallpapers made up of cotton cellulose, paper products, cotton thread and other recycled materials. This is later processed by techniques of Canadian technology. Going the green way In the choice of wood, Meenakshi recommends bamboo-based furniture. She explains, "Bamboo is not only an organic product, it is strong, firm and stays durable for years. Termite-free and suited to all kinds of climate/weather conditions; it is also easy on the pocket vis-a-vis other expensive options in wooden decor." Wrought iron is another pick that adds elegance to an ordinary home setup. You do not need to hassle about chipping; fading or scratching with wrought iron furniture. It is competent in withstanding harsh weather changes. Affordability issues are further solved when you decide to incorporate creative Paper Mache, cane-baskets and terracotta cushion covers stitched in heavy embroidery and thread work to your living space. Speaking about the sustainability of eco-friendly decor items, Meenakshi convinces, "The maintenance cost with eco-friendly options is far less than the initial cost put in by the client. The durability extends sometimes beyond four-five years." Synthetic products not only demand huge sum of money, the toxicity in them pollute the home's atmosphere. Add green plants within the premise of your balcony, set up a small garden if you take to planting and you'll see what blessing that is to the environment. Maintaining eco-friendly wallpapers Eco-friendly wallpapers are extremely easy to maintain and safe for children too. Toxic fumes that arise from paints can have harmful affects. DecorCoat for instance is a three-dimensional textured decorative material for interior walls and form a protective layer as a base that is completely odourless. It is an integration of technology, aesthetics and natural properties product. These wallpapers are anti-mold and anti-fungal and therefore can easily stand the unpredictable monsoon months. With a touch of varnish, these wallpapers retain the polished finish and glaze for years. Other environmental benefits -Quick and easy to apply-No joints-Hides uneven, old and faded walls-Partial repair possible-Crack resistant and long-lasting-Antistatic - does not attract dust and dirt-Additional insulation of heat, moisture and sound-Permeable (allows walls to breathe)

'To be good and to do good' September 11, 2012 16:02

"Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached."-Swami Vivekananda. My dear brothers and sisters , give me an opportunity to take you back to 1893 at World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. It was  a bright day. Scores of people occupied their seats to hear what every religion speaks. Everyone were keenly listening to the lectures by the eminent religious scholars. And there was one person sitting in a perfect posture with head held high and eagerly awaiting his chance.  Draped in ochre coloured gown and turban, this person was youngest of all present over there. This young man finally got a chance and there were few seconds of silence as Hindu monk walked up to the podium. He didn't have a prepared speech like other delegates and his throats went dry. He gathered the courage and started....With a pleasing voice, he uttered “Sisters and brothers of America.” And there was a tremendous applause, which lasted for a couple of minutes. That was Swami Vivekananda, the Hindu monk of India, who got officially introduced to the world and his speech is remembered till date by people across the globe. Swami Vivekananda went to say the greatness of Hinduism. He said India was a sacred country and was gradually waking up.  He said he was proud to belong to a nation, which has sheltered the persecuted and refugees of all religions and all nations of the world. He even said a few verses from Gita.   Swami Vivekananda has said that no religion is superior nor inferior and stressed that how all rivers join the sea, people from all religions reach the only God. After spreading the greatness of the religion he practiced, Swami Vivekananda gave his final session on 27 September 1893 stating that if the Parliament of Religions has shown anything to the world it is this: It has proved to the world that holiness, purity and charity are not the exclusive possessions of any church in the world and that every system has produced men and women of the most exalted character. Swami Vivekananda, who was born on 12 January 1863 as Narendra Nath Dutta became Swamy Vivekananda after he found his guru (teacher) Rama Krishan Paramhamsa (who is considered as the father of tantra). He was the person who revived Hinduism in India and established charties--Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.  Narendra Nath Dutta as a young boy born in a low middle class Bengali family in Calcutta. Narendra Nath never believed in superstitions and apparently asked for proofs for whatever he heard and refused to accept anything without logic. He one day happened to meet Rama Krishna in 1881 and asked him whether he believed in God. Ramakrishna replied yes and Vivekananda asked him to prove the same. Rama Krishna's answer impressed Vivekananda as he said he had seen God just like how he saw Vivekananda. Thereafter, Narendranath frequently visited Rama Krishna and finally surrendered himself to Rama Krishna after five years of his first meeting with the latter.  Swami Vivekananda learned Advaita Vedanta (one of the schools of vedanta, which was as old as vedas and was practiced by Adi Shankaracharya). Swami Vivekananda found Ramakrishna after the demise of his guru. Swami travelled length and breadth of the country mainly living on alms (bikshas) to acquaint himself with diverse religious traditions. After traveling across the world, Swami passed away at Belur Math on July 4, 1902 while he was meditating at the age of 40. The Government of India celebrates the birthday of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day. Message to youth:Swami Vivekananda didn't ask youth to give up their activities and take up renunciation. He appealed to the youngsters to be bold and strong.  He said neither money pays, nor name nor fame but character, which can cleave through adamantine walls of difficulties.  He said each soul is potentially divine. He even mentioned that  there's God in every jiva (person) and those who serves jiva indeed serves God. Strength is life and weakness is death, he said. When you take just a day's time to look into the works and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, let me tell you that your life would be transformed for sure. You would no more feel the necessity to beat the stress by partying on weekends. All that you will adopt unknowingly is the right attitude towards life, a sense of brotherhood—to be good and to do good. (AW Phani)

10 Tips to withhold your Guy... September 10, 2012 11:53

No matter how arrogant or calm or sweet or responsible or irresponsible your Guy is... You still love him... then with the rest all you do for him, follow this 10 mantras to withhold your Guy with you, no matter what; 1- Listen to him. More than any other complain men give when asked to name something their girl would do more of, is listen to him. Whether he's a big talker or a quiet guy, men need to have their women listen to them. And by listening, I mean hearing what they have to say and acknowledging as such. And of course, it also means empathizing, limiting judgment and allowing them to finish. 2 - Touch him. So many seem to think that all men want physically is sex, this is far from the case. Men want and need touching just as much if not more than women do. Touch his hands, arms and shoulders. Just to be close. Touch his face and look into his eyes. This will bring him closer to you.3 - Let him have his way more than occasionally. Men like to feel they have control over their lives so sometimes the littlest things they request might be something big to them. Don't make him feel like he has to ask if he wants to do things, especially in his own home. Allow him as much freedom to make decisions as you expect from him. 4 - Make sure he has what he needs. A lot of times men have trouble coming to their women for the things they need. This causes them to either figure out how to get what they need themselves or go without. It would be so much better for him if you would simply ask him what he needs, then he could tell you, and you could do it if you were so inclined. This tip should not be taken lightly because a lot of men wind up with someone else if they're not getting what they need from their women. 5 - Be there when he's feeling low. Sometimes it's hard to be there for someone when they are feeling low, especially if they can't articulate what exactly is wrong, or if they get cranky when down. Don't let this stop you. If your man is feeling down and you want him to know you love him all the time, not just when he's feeling good, try to comfort him and give him some nurturing. 6 - Never criticize or use sarcasm. Nobody likes to be criticized or made to feel like they are screwing up, even when they are. Your man knows when he's screwed up, you criticizing him for it will only make things worse. So, don't belittle or use sarcasm when you're angry or upset, simply stop talking if you can't think of anything good to say. 7 - Trust him. Not everyone is easy to trust, but it truly is the cornerstone of any relationship. If you want your man to know you love him, than trust him to do what is right for you and for himself. If he screws up, it is your option to do what you think is best. But give him the benefit of the doubt first. 8 - Always talk to him with respect. If you love your man, why would you talk to him with anything but respect? Not doing so is a subtle way of telling him you don't really love him, because people who love each other have no need to disrespect one another. 9 - Do things for him. People who love one another do things for one another. Whether it's as a favor or because you know they need it, or because it is simply something that needs to be done. If you love your man, do those little things that show him. 10 - Support him. Everyone in life has to make a lot of decisions all of the time. Sometimes things don't work out, and sometimes they do. Don't be the kind of girl that is only supportive when he makes the right decisions or he'll not come to you at all when he's made decisions about things that might affect you both.

Change your negative emotions into positive emotions September 08, 2012 17:09

Yes, I know Usually our decision to feel a certain emotion is unconscious but it doesn’t have to be that way. At first you'll notice your emotions only after you feel them.  Start by accepting your emotions and take full responsibility for them, you can’t change something until you accept it.Think about the positive  intent  of the feeling. E.g. Perhaps the fear helps saving your life or gives you a feeling of safety. If you don’t know what the intent is you can use theSix-Step Reframing  technique to find the positive intentions and to find alternative ways to accomplish your positive function. Permit yourself to feel sad, frightened, angry or any emotion you consider negative. Explain yourself that it’s ok to feel that way and distinguish between the emotion and yourself. If you  feel  angry it doesn’t mean that you’re  an angry person and if you  feel  scared it doesn’t mean  you’re  a coward. Don’t try to block the emotion, instead let yourself feel it as much as you can. If you’ll stay with the emotion you’ll find peace.  Notice if you’ve unpleasant feelings in the body every time you feel the emotion, if you do ask yourself what emotion lays underneath the first emotion and let yourself feel it. Keep doing it until you feel all the emotions. After you felt the emotions, if you still feel a negative emotion in your body, you can breathe through your mouth and direct the breathing to the discomfort area in your body. If you don’t feel a discomfort in the body you can direct the breathing to your heart. All of our feelings are filtered through the heart. The breathing should be deep and slow. After a few minutes you’ll feel relieved. Realize that you don’t feel that way all day long, there are times when you feel great. Think about all the instances when you felt bad, what do they all have in common? In most cases you’ll find that it’s related to a few areas in your life that require your attention. It can be areas like self acceptance and love, making independent decisions, loneliness and so on. These areas are related to limiting  beliefs.  Talk to someone about the things that bother you. It’s best to talk to a professional but your friends and family can help too. Think about all the times you felt great. Remember what it was like to feel the emotions, remember the things you saw, heard, smelled and so on. Make a vivid image of the good times you had, make the colors of the image bright and sharp. Make the image bigger and bigger and notice how you feel about it. Play with it until you feel wonderful. Our thoughts influence our emotions, If you have a negative sentence that you keep repeating in your mind simply replace it with something short and positive.
