Charan loses to Parineeti Chopra September 10, 2013 16:44

Last Friday, we saw Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra starrer "Zanjeer" and Parineeti Chopra and Sushant Singh Rajput starrer "Shuddh Desi Romance" take it head on at the box-office. And, as predicted, it's the breezy romance that seems to clearly emerge as the box-office favorite over theweekend. While Maneesh Sharma's “Shuddh Desi Romance” netted Rs.23.27 crore on its first weekend,  Apoorva Lakhia's “Zanjeer” proved to be quite a dud with a mere collection of just Rs.10.16 crore in the first week. While SDR started off to a lukewarm response, it caught up on Saturday and Sunday, while Zanjeer started out well, but lost out over the weekend. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “Priyanka's Zanjeer, made on a budget of Rs.70 crore, got panned by the critics and audience while Shuddh Desi Romance, that was made on a budget of Rs.30 crore, impressed critics and audience for its fresh cast and storyline.” Parineeti Chopra is ecstatic  by the success. "When I read the script I was sure that this is going to be a very entertaining film. I was happy that Maneesh and Adi (Aditya Chopra from YRF) offered me this film because after 'Ishaqzaade' I wanted to do something different and 'Shuddh Desi Romance' clicked," Parineeti said . "It has released and people are liking it, the reviews are good and all the performances and Jaideep (Sahni, scriptwriter) and Maneesh's work is being appreciated. When there are a lot of messages and missed calls on your phone, you like it. So, I am very happy," added the 24-year-old. (AW: Suchorita Dutta)

Ex-lovers back on screen September 02, 2013 18:22

Amitabh and Rekha have come a long way since the days of Silsiley. Here's a piece of news that all you Hindi movie fans have been dying for! If the grapevine is to be trusted, Bollywood's mega-couple - Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha - might return to the big screen soon. One of India's much-adored on-screen pair, the duo were last seen romancing each other in the camera in Yash Chopra's love saga - "Silsila." However, their comeback movie will be a far cry from romance, it seems. Apparently, the stars will make their big-screen return together with Anees Bazmee's slapstick sequel “Welcome Back.” Producer Firoz Nadiadwala and director Anees Bazmee are reportedly in talks with Bachchan and Rekha for the sequel of their 2007 hit 'Welcome'. Big B has  been offered  the role of RDX-- formerly played by late actor Feroz Khan, while Rekha has been offered the role of a wealthy fashionista. "We are considering Rekhaji for a role which will have love angle between Nana and Anil. But it is too early to talk about all this as nothing is decided and confirmed. As there are three-four veteran actresses that we are thinking of it all depends if they like it or not, their dates and money issues," Bazmee told. Confirmed or not, this couple will never lose their onscreen spark. (AW: Suchorita Dutta)

Emraan the drama queen August 30, 2013 17:46

B-town's serial kisser is giving his directors and producers sleepless nights! Apparently, Emraan Hashmi has stalled Kunal Deshmukh's next film “Shatir”, despite being casted with a heroine of his choice. Says a source, “Initially the film was supposed to go on the floors six months ago. Emraan just couldn’t match his dates with the rest of the crew. He kept offering different dates and cited his other projects and commitments. It kept pushing the film back. Kunal even agreed to wait in order to rope in Humaima Malick, who the actor wanted as his co-star. But a film can’t take off without its hero.” Initially, a lot of time was wasted in auditioning for actresses. A crewmember states, “Pooja Chopra auditioned along with many newbies but we were not able to get back to any of them. Some of them even vented their displeasure at us. But we still went for Emraan’s recommendation. Now all the drama about his dates!” Emraan wasn't for comment. (AW: Suchorita Dutta)

All is not well with Kat-Ranbir August 28, 2013 16:46

Ranbir Kapoor is avoiding Katrina like plague these days. What's more, he didn't even turn up for Kat's sister's wedding last week. So what is it that is keeping the lovers apart? Media? No. Work? Err... we don't know. Apparently, the actor has occupied himself so much with work that he is left without any time for Kat. The actor, who is currently shooting for “Bombay Velvet” in Sri Lanka couldn't make it to Natacha's wedding in London last week owing to his jam-packed schedule. Junior RK has been shuttling between Lanka and India, shooting for BV and dubbing for soon-to-be-released movie "Besharam". But is it the only reason that Ranbir is keeping his distance from Katrina? A couple of weeks back, holiday pictures of bikini clad Kat with Ranbir Kapoor in Spain was splashed all across the media. This had irked the actress big time. Not just that, even the Besharam's dad and mum - Rishi and Neetu Kapoor - were put off by the rumors. So is RK ignoring Kat to clear up the mess? We don't know... (AW: Suchorita Dutta)

Salman's ex girlfriends still fighting August 24, 2013 16:10

'Everything that goes around, comes around!' B-town's warring queens Ash and Kat neatly fit into this proverbial phrase. Aishwarya's and Katrina's battle go back to their Salman Khan days. Ever since, the duo has been at loggerheads. In the past, Kat had snatched a spate of coveted deals from Ash's kitty. Now, it's Ash's turn to avenge! A well-placed source reveals that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has replaced Miss Kaif in a plum ad project for a real estate giant. This comes as a double whammy for Katrina who was recently denied a role in Anurag Kashyap's Besharam opposite boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, despite the latter's recommendation and insistence. Apparently, the reason cited by the brand was vague - 'Katrina's positioning versus their own'. Whatever may be the reason, it's quite apparent that Katrina and Aishwarya seem to keep an eye on each other's movement closely. A game of thrones truly! (AW: Suchorita Dutta)

King Khan, Priyanka split August 23, 2013 15:05

Shah Rukh Khan seems to be losing out on his friends fast! First Salman, then Arjun and now Priyanka! Apparently, Piggy Chops has been giving King Khan a cold shoulder of late, for reasons best known to  the actor. We got a wind of things recently after PC decided to host a screening of her animation movie “Planes”, which releases today, for her B-Town buddies. Among those are pals Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Illeana D’Cruz, Kunal Kohli, Anurag Basu, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. Quite apparently, good friend Shah Rukh's name didn't feature anywhere in the list. So does it mean another Bollywood camaraderie has gone kaput? Well, this isn't the only instance. Earlier, SRK stayed away from conveying birthday wishes to Piggy Chops even while the entire B-town took to Twitter to wish the actor. Also, when Piggy Chops was quizzed about Shahrukh-Deepika starrer Chennai Express, she said she has been very occupied to make out time for it. “I have been very busy since the last six months. There are a lot of movies; I have to catch up with.” she commented. Now all these episodes only confirm one thing - Don and his 'junglee billi'  have finally parted ways, much to wife Gauri Khan's relief! (AW: Suchorita Dutta)

Film on Swamiji August 22, 2013 12:42

The film gives an appearance of a low-budget biopic regarding the Hindu monk as well as thinker. To bring into prominence there have not been many films on the great Swami Vivekananda, a Hindu monk and thinker from West Bengal who elevated India’s spirituality on the international forum. Going back in history, there was one film way back in 1955 and then Swami Vivekananda in 1994, a film where Mithun Chakraborty delivered a National Award-winning performance in the role of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, happens to be the Swami’s guru. Premankur Chattopadhyay, the actor playing Shri Paramahamsa in the current film The Light: Swami Vivekananda, is apparently suitable to be compared to Mithun da. The new film releasing on August 23,  happens to be a bilingual in Hindi and Bengali directed by Utpal Sinha. It stars actor Deep Bhattacharya in the title role who appeared convincing in the role. Yet the film’s trailer seems sticky to the touch, accompanying a feeling that many of the important scenes have been shot on a Chroma key background. Accompanied by low production values, its spiritual content is the only thing that will save it at the box office. There would be a hope that the film does justice to the Swami’s life. In fact, there was a special screening of The Light: Swami Vivekananda for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the same time he was known to have uphold the film. Check out the video and tell us if you like the trailer! It's genuinely a great opportunity for millions to experience the great swamiji and get inspired by his powerful words! Salman-Katrina to shake it up again? August 20, 2013 19:41

Exes Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif may not be an 'item' in real life, but that doesn't make them any less desirable on the reels. Buzz is that the duo has been roped in to shake a leg for an item track in Atul Agnihotri's upcoming next. Previously, Kat had teamed up with Sallu for a special song “Aaya Re Aaya” in “Bodyguard” on request of Salman's sister Alvira and husband Atul. This time too, Atul has managed to rope in the duo for yet another encore. The audio track of the item song is currently under production. Although the entire crew of the movie are hush-hush about the Kat's cameo in the film, insiders reveal that Kat has accepted the offer. Atul, on the other hand, says that the song is still being worked upon and no leading lady has been approached for it yet. "Guest appearances in movies usually translate into songs. But, honestly, we are still working on the track. Until that is done, I do not have anything else to say," he concludes.
