Animal Story

Animal tells the story of Ranvijay Singh Balbir, a devoted son who will stop at nothing to safeguard his father, Balbir Singh. Despite his deep affection for his father, Balbir Singh's attention is consumed by his business empire, leaving Ranvijay longing for reciprocated love. When Ranvijay falls in love with Geethanjali, he begins to live with her. However, their lives are thrown into chaos when an unexpected assault is made on Balbir Singh. The film centers around Ranvijay's relentless pursuit to protect his father at all costs.

Animal Analysis

It's hard to envision anyone else stepping into Ranbir's shoes in Animal. The level of brilliance displayed by the talented actor is truly remarkable. The protagonist's character is incredibly untamed, demanding a great deal of conviction to bring it to life. Ranbir goes all out and delivers an exceptional performance. Even if you weren't a fan of his before, you'll undoubtedly become one after witnessing the extraordinary conversation scene in the climax.

The first half of the movie is absolutely captivating. Despite its lengthy duration, the initial hour manages to captivate us completely. The character development, execution of action sequences, and intense moments all work seamlessly. The interval sequence is the pinnacle of the film, with superb cinematography and an uplifting background score by Harshavardhan Rameshwar.

Performance

Rashmika Mandanna does a commendable job in her role, and her chemistry with Ranbir is superb. The Telugu dubbing is exceptional, and there's never a moment where it feels like we're watching a dubbed film. In particular, Vasu, who dubbed for Ranbir, deserves special recognition for his extraordinary work. The songs are also fantastic, with well-written Telugu lyrics.

Ranbir possesses a profound complexity that manifests in his peculiar behavior during the second hour. The title aptly reflects the exploration of the protagonist's psyche, a rarity in mainstream cinema. However, these shifts in tone in the latter half may not resonate with everyone, particularly the mass audience who may struggle to connect with certain segments. While Sandeep Reddy Vanga took great care in developing Ranbir's character, the same cannot be said for Bobby Deol's role. The character remains underdeveloped, resulting in a lackluster face-off in the pre-climax. Excessive use of English may also prove to be irksome at times, and the predictability of the film becomes evident at a certain point.

The songs in this film are all exceptional and expertly filmed. The cinematography is precise and the action sequences are thoughtfully curated. Harshavardhan Rameshwar's stunning background score enhances the impact of numerous scenes. While the editing could have been improved in the final hour, and a few scenes could have been trimmed down.

Now, let's discuss the writer-director, Sandeep Reddy. He has delivered a unique and offbeat action drama. The first half is superb and has widespread appeal. However, the dramatic portion between Ranbir and Rashmika in the second half, along with the underlying reasons for their conflict, may not resonate with everyone. In fact, some sections might even dislike it. The story itself is not groundbreaking, but it is Ranbir's characterization that sets the film apart.
