Bollywood Singer, Kailash Kher, has been conferred the India’s most prestigious fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri.

Kailash, who rose to fame, with the hit song, “Allah ke bande” in 2003, has received the recognition by President Pranab Mukherjee for his contribution to music in the country.

“My Padma Shri is for the country, I am for the country. I feel extremely happy when people tell me that I deserved this award,” said Kailash.

The 43-year-old, singer with a sense of pride, said that words will fall short, if he is asked about the importance of the award for him.

“Receiving such a prestigious award holds loads of importance in one's life; words will fall short if I try to explain it. In my case, it is even more special; it is historic. It is such an incident, which will be mentioned in books, in future,” added Kailash.

Known for adding Sufi touch to his songs, the singer stated that music is not entertainment, but the way of living for him. He continued, saying that, “This award is not for me but for all, who love me. This is a result of my parents blessings. I feel honored for all the love that people and my fans bestow me with.”

“The work that I have done is because of my upbringing, as I used to listen to Kabir, Guru Nanakdev. So before music, I got versed with literature. And that is how I started writing.” “You can see the revolution that has come now. More than one crore people follow me on social media and they are dedicated followers.”

The singer, who hails from Meerut, gave up his education, decades ago to pursue his dream to be a singer.

Kailash has crooned some famous tracks like “Teri deewani”, “Ya Rabba”, “Yun hi chala chal rahi” and many more.
