The Central Board of Film Certification has released its 2010 report on the number of films certified by the board. There was a slight decrease in the total number of feature films produced in the country. In 2009 the numbers of films produced were 1288 and in 2010 they shrunk to 1274.
Telugu film fraternity which has many times boasted about the maximum number of films produced, has numbers fallen much. In 2009 the numbers of films produced were 218 and there was a sharp decline in 2010 with only 181 films produced.
By this the Tollywood which held the numero uno position, once upon a time, has slid to number three ranking.
Among the innumerable reasons for this decline the few are the changing political scenario, lack of box office hits, turmoil within, story trends, escalating budgets and what not.
On the whole the situation is alarming and not a good trend.
