User Data Not Affected by Malicious MP4 File Bug Says WhatsApp:- WhatsApp today confirmed that the user data was not affected due to the malicious MP4 file bug which left the world worried. There was a bug when WhatsApp was downloaded by the users on Android and iOS platforms. On Sunday, there were reports that hackers can use WhatsApp vulnerability to deploy the malware on the device of the users to steal some sensitive information.

"WhatsApp is constantly working to improve the security of our service. We make public, reports on potential issues we have fixed consistently with industry-best practices. In this instance, there is no reason to believe users were impacted," said a spokesperson in a statement. WhatsApp already issued a security update on the bug. The issue was present in parsing the elementary stream metadata of an MP4 file and could result in a DoS or RCE.

The new issue is found in Android versions prior to 2.19.274 and iOS versions prior to 2.19.100. Earlier there were reports that this MP4 file triggered snooping concerns but WhatsApp denied the news.
