Delhi plays host to largest Chess tourney

The nation's largest chess tourney is to be held at the Airport Authority of India club in Delhi. The AICF-AAI cup will give away the maximum prize amount in the country. The award is Rs 12 lakhs and the tourney shall be conduted from December 20-30.

Renowned international players are to partcicpate in this event. India with three partcipants, banks on bringing home the cup. The three partcipants are K Sasikiran (former Nattional champion), Abhijeet Gupta (former World junior champ) and Parimarjan Negi who is the current Asian Champ.

Expectations are building up on Negi with a strong feeling that he will want to wind up 2012, with this victory. Among the three Negi has shown some mettle in the recent times. Incidentally he is the second youngest GM, globally. Will he avenge his dismal show at the Olympiad is another big question that is on his fans minds.

The format in this Category 18 event will be a double round-robbin with each player playing twice with each other. The other partcipating players would likely be Poland's Radoslaw, Ukraine's Korobov and Russia's Alekseev. (Wishesh-AarKay)
