Lakshman gets "Padma Shri"

Indian middle-order Test batsman, VVS Laxman has been chosen for the 2010 year's PadmaSri Award for his laxmanexcellence in the game of cricket. The elegant,hyderabadi batsman who is known for pulling the team out of woods a number of times. Most recently, he played a stellar role in drawing the test rubber with South Africa on its home soil. In the preceding home series against NZ, he helped India winning the 1st test with tail-ender Zaheer Khan.

He is the guy who essentially thrives on high pressure situations.  Mr.Laxman has long been overshadowed by Sachin Tendulkar,Rahul Dravid despite his brilliant,match-saving knocks on numerous occasions. A down-to-earth Laxman has played 120 Tests with a test aggregate of 7,903 runs. He has 16 Test hundereds to his credit. His majestic test best of 281 came against the  Aussies' awesome attack comprising McGrath,Shane Warne at Eden Gardens, Calcutta in 1998. During this particular series, India clawed back into the series from behind to pull off an incredible 2-1 win in the 3 test series.
