Hyundai Launches its First Indian Electric Vehicle Kona:- South Korean auto giant Hyundai launched its first fully electric SUV in India named Kona which is priced at Rs 25.3 lakhs. It sought the government to support the electric vehicles for personal usage. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has its own subsidiary and it is in plans to develop a huge market for electric vehicles.

"We have seen some positive development in the form of tax incentives on the purchase of EVs as provided in the Budget, but we think more can be done by the government to accelerate the adoption of EVs in India," HMIL MD and CEO S S Kim told in an interview to PTI. Electric vehicles are expensive but they are pollution free and less on maintenance. The Indian government is providing incentives for electric vehicles to promote them.

Hyundai feels that Kona will be a game changer in the Indian market for sure. Kona delivers 452 kms for a single charge under standard testing conditions. Hyundai is now in plans to introduce 44 environment-friendly models and 23 among them are fully electric. Kona features 136 PS of power with an ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 9.7 seconds. The vehicles gets charged completely in six hours.

Kona also comes with six airbags, anti-lock braking system, tyre pressure monitoring system and rear camera. The Kona EV will be assembled at HMIL's Chennai plant.
