Tata Motors Won't Discontinue the Bolt Hatchback

Despite low sales of the Bolt hatchback, Tata Motors has officially stated that it won't discontinue the Bolt hatchback, after rumors surfaced that it would. As Tata Motors revised its plans of launching the Bolt Sports, it led to rumors that it would discontinue the Bolt as well.

However, it is now made clear that Tata Motors will continue to have the Bolt sold in India. It was through the Bolt hatchback that Tata Motors brought in its IMPACT design language, which has influenced most of the current Tata models that led to some great sales as with the Tata Tiago.

Even for the Bolt, the new design language gave it immediate success, while the sales declined considerably after a while. Though introduced in January 2015, Tata Motors has since had only 17,000 units sold of the Bolt hatchback.

The Bolt, Tiago, Zest and the soon-to-be-launched Tata Kite 5 bear similar design traits, including the front fascia. With the Bolt, the design became more fluid than the solid-design previous generation models of the Tata Motors.

The fluid design has well-lined side profile, aesthetic front-grille, sculpted fog lamp provisions, sweptback headlights, sloping A-pillar and blackened B-and-C-pillars. The rear design looks the most attractive with black bumper-cladding, high-ground clearing stance, well-designed bootlid and rear spoiler.

The Tata Bolt comes with both petrol and diesel-powered engines with the 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged mill making 84 bhp of power at 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 1,750-3,500 rpm. The diesel mill, on the other hand, makes 73 bhp and 190 Nm of torque. Both the engines get mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

It also gets the Multidrive option, which is attractive for the buyers. The Bolt is also expected to be relegated to the fleet vehicles, while it also has an export market in Nepal.
