Sri Lanka thump Scotland

Kumar Sangakkara became the first batsman to hit four successive centuries in one-day internationals to help Sri Lanka wrap up their World Cup pool campaign with a 148-run romp over Scotland at Bellerive Oval today. Freddie Coleman (70) and skipper Preston Mommsen (60) tried their best but Scotland simply lacked the batting firepower. Sangakkara's insatiable appetite for runs continued unabated as he added 195 runs with Tillakaratne Dilshan (104) against Scotland's limited bowling resources.

"Scotland and the other teams have been called minnows, but they have done wonderfully well for the World Cup and for cricket here. Teams like that, with the effort they put in and the colour they have brought, and the joy they have given the spectators and everyone, I think they richly deserve to keep on playing in World Cups," Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara said.

"Records do matter, I think. I would love to say records never enter my mind, but they do. There are certain things that you chase - you try to keep those goals. They are not the only things you chase, but as long as you do the right things those things will fall into place and come along," Kumar Sangakkara said on becoming the first man to hit four consecutive ODI hundreds, and the first man to take 500 ODI dismissals.
