Centre increases Dearness Allowance from 17 to 28 percent:- The Centre today announced that the Dearness Allowance (DA) has been increased from 17 percent to 28 percent and this will be applicable from July 1st this year. Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced the news today through a virtual press conference. This will be a boost for 5 million Central Government Employees and 6.5 million people who are taking pension after serving various departments of the Centre. The decision has been taken by the Union cabinet which was held over a year ago in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office. The central government officials are getting a DA of 17 percent from July 2019. The revisions in 2020 is suspended because of the ongoing coronavirus. The Union Cabinet approved a 4 percent increase in the DA last year. But the Centre announced that it is increased to 28 percent.

The employees will get a fat increase in the allowance. Three installments of DA (January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021) are canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The government saved Rs 37,530.08 crores through these months. The Union Cabinet also approved the scheme of promotion of the flagging of merchant ships in the country. The change of nomenclature and mandate of North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM) as North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research (NEIAFMR) has been approved by the Union Cabinet today.
