Airlines cut fares by half

In an attempt to get maximum bookings in summer season, Airlines have cut the airfares by 50 percent and rest of the low cost airlines are also considering to slash the prices. SpiceJet Airlines was the first among to make the announcement of discount prices and later Air India, IndiGo and Go Air followed this.

On Tuesday morning SpiceJet announced the reduced air fares and within no time, the bookings rose to 250 percent. Now a traveller can pay only Rs 3,355 for the Delhi-Mumbai route where the spot fares is actually Rs 10,098.

But the discounts are only for the domestic flights and international trips have cut down in price. And tickets need to be booked at least 30 days prior to the travel day. “Travellers are finally getting a respite from high airfares and will take advantage of these great prices to book for their holidays in advance,” said travel portal Yatra.com's president Sharat Dhall in statement. Amber Dubey, partner and head for aerospace and defence said the offer would help stimulate demand in a lean quarter. The only losers are other airlines who have to match fares.
