“The first 18 months the girl was normal. She started bleeding about 16 months ago. The bleeding occurs for seconds, sometimes minutes, and stops by itself. Sometimes she bleeds twice or thrice in a day, sometimes five times a week. I took her to hospitals in Mumbai and Bengaluru. No one could diagnose the disease,” the father says.

Pediatric oncologist Dr Sirisha says that the girl may be suffering from a rare medical condition called Hematidrosis, which causes capillary blood vessels that feed the sweat glands rupture and ooze out blood. “After days of medical care and concern, the bleeding has reduced a lot. She required multiple transfusions and recurrent admissions. One’s physical health is badly affected with this and she is a child. It has not permanently been cured but process is on,” Dr Sirisha said.

Afzal has a son and Ahana is the younger daughter. The family, so far, has spent Rs1.5 lakh and unable to afford the expenditure Afzal had asked Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s help to provide with financial assistance. An online fundraiser platform - Milaap - has raised funds over Rs2 lakh.
