Naidu and Co receives ED notices under FEMA

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has served notices on the Telugu Desam
President Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, his son Mr. N. Lokesh Naidu, C.M. Ramesh
of Rithvik Projects and the TDP MP Mr Sujana Chowdary under the Foreign
Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Reports said that ED acted on a complaint filed by Vijayamma with it even
before she had filed the PIL in the High Court. It is however not clear the
ED has also acted as per the high court orders. It has asked all of them to
reply with in the next ten days.

Notice was served on Mr Chandrababu Naidu as he is the Managing Trustee of
NTR Memorial Trust Bhavan. The ED has asked the TDP chief to reveal the
details of donations received from abroad for the Trust.

Lokesh was asked to submit the details of expenditure used for his foreign
studies. "How much you spent on your foreign studies and how did you get the
money and from where?" Lokesh was asked to reply.

Sujana Choudary was asked to submit his company's balance sheets for the
last three years. Sources said the ED is limited to seek details of FEMA
violation from all these persons and based on their replies, the ED will
take further action.

Vijayamma alleged in her petition that the former Satyam Computers chairman
Mr B. Ramalinga Raju had funded the foreign education of Lokesh who had
studied at Carnegie Mellon University and at Stanford University in the
United States when Mr Naidu was in the power. "Rs. 22 Cr was paid to these
universities to get admission for Lokesh," she alleged in her petition.

She alleged that Mr Sujana Chowdary and Mr Ramesh are Telugu Desam leaders
and they are running benami companies of Mr Naidu.

The High Court has ordered the state police, CBI and the ED to conduct
independent preliminary investigation on the allegations made by Vijayamma
and submit sealed cover reports. (JUBS)
