Tooth discoloration is a common occurrence in our society, mainly because of lifestyle.   It can be caused by a number of different things including smoking, food, drink and genetics.   Luckily there are methods or procedures that can be done to improve the condition of your teeth.   The most effective method is to visit your dentist and have you teeth bleached professionally.  

This however can be costly and time consuming, as you may need to make a number of different visits to achieve your desired results.   Home whitening kits are very popular because of convenience and cost.   They are less then visiting the dentist and can be done in the privacy of your own home.   However there are natural and traditional means to brightening your smile, the cost is low and they are free from the harmful chemicals that can be found in bleaching kits.

Homemade Teeth Whitening Options

Bi-carbonate paste and water:
Baking soda paste is a popular homemade remedy for whitening your teeth. Baking soda paste can be found at any drug store or supermarket. Simply mix the baking soda paste with water and gargle on a regular basis. It is widely believed that regular gargling will remove stain and prevent future stains from occurring.

Lemon juice and salt:

By combining lemon juice and salt, a paste is created and is known to remove the yellowish tint on teeth. Regular use will result in whiter and brighter teeth. The reason is the acidic content of the lemon juice, which breaks down the stain and removes dull color.

Bay leaves and dried orange peel:
As with lemon juice, orange also have a high acidic value, and the peel of an orange can also act and a homemade teeth whitening. It is best to used dry bay leaves and a dried orange rind for this recipe. Simply place the leaves on the orange peel and rub the two together on the teeth. Make certain to use regularly and the dull color of your teeth will vanish.

The inside of a fresh orange peel:
It is always economical to use as much of the fruit as possible as opposed to throwing it away. In this case keep the orange rind from your orange and use the inside to whiten your smile. Simply rub it on your teeth and watch your smile brighten.

Homemade Methods May Not Be As Fast As Professional Teeth Whitening But They Do Work

These methods are an alternative to the high cost of professional whitening treatments, or the high chemical contents of some the manufactured products. The results will vary, and may not be as effective right away, but if used on a regular basis they will remove and prevent future stains from occurring. They have their advantages, mainly their low cost and environmental and health benefits.
