Perfectionist Of Bollywood Attends Award Function After 16 Years; Gets Award For “Dangal”

He might have vowed to never attend or accept an award, but the Perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir Khan recently made an exception for the one and only legendary singer and Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, for the first time in 16 years.

The superstar received the Master Dinanath Mangeshkar award in Mumbai from Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS. The actor received the award for the movie “Dangal”, one of the biggest hits of 2016, and said it is a big honor for him. The writer-director of the film, Nitesh Tiwari was also present at the ceremony along with Aamir Khan.

The awards were held to commemorate her father’s 75th death anniversary and it was also when the legendary singer started singing in films. The last such show that Aamir attended was the Oscars, when his movie “Lagaan” was nominated in the Best Foreign Film category.

Aamir said, “It is a very big honor for me and Nitesh. I thank Didi and everyone from the bottom of my heart for the respect that this film has been given.” “This has only been possible because of the wonderful story that Nitesh has written. I would also like to say that whatever I am today, the whole credit goes to all the writers whose films I have worked in,” added Aamir.

Aamir played a wrestling legend Mahavir Phogat in the film “Dangal” and portrayed his remarkable journey of grooming champion daughters Geeta and Babita.

Cricket legend Kapil Dev and veteran actor Vyjayanthimala Bali were also honored in the function, apart from Aamir Khan. Other awardees included Kishore Deshpande, presented with Anadmayee Puraskar for his work in social service, Vishwanath Karad, Founder, Vishwashanti Kendra, presented with Samarpit Jeevan Puraskar, Vijaya Rajadhyaksha, conferred with Vagvilasini Puraskar for her work in literature. Uday Nirgudkar received an award for his editorial work while Kaushiki Chakraborty for her endeavour in the field of music. “Mohan Wagh Award” for best drama was presented to Sunil Barve for Amar Photo Studio – Subak Sanstha.

Aamir will soon be seen in “Secret Superstar” and is also prepping up for “Thugs of Hindostan” that also stars Amitabh Bachchan.
