Vijayashanti was born on 24th June 1964 in Chennai.  She started her film career in 1980 and acted in 186 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.  

She received National Award in 1990 for the best actress for her role in 'Kartavyam'.  She received four Nandi awards for Pratighatana, Bharatanari, Kartavyam and Ose Ramulamma.  She was awarded by Filmfare on five occasions for the Best Actor and one Life Time Achievement Award.  

She entered politics joining BJP.  Then she started her own party 'Talli Telangana' to fight for the formation of a separate State of Telangana which later was merged with TRS and became an MP from Medak constituency.
