In terms of producing films, no industry is as prolific as south Indian film industry. This was not the opinion of film critics but legendary actor Kamal Haasan. South Indian films constitute 60 to 70 per cent of the total films in India, said Kamal Haasan. To make a point, Kamal Haasan has said that the national film resides in the south since film makers in the south were never restricted to one language and took efforts to go beyond borders.

Naming some of the big personalities in south film industry, Kamal Haasan has said that the south Indian film industry has producers such as D Rama Naidu who produced films in 13 languages. He even cited the report of the Deloitte and said South Indian film industry was worth Rs. 21, 190 crore.
