Sourav Ganguly bids adieu to IPL 6

After calling it quits from the international cricket career after his 2008 Test series against Australia, the world never expected to see him play international cricket again but IPL had worked the magic bringing back dada on to the green fields. He has now confirmed that he would not be playing the IPL season 6 as he talked to the media telling them that his match against Pune Warriors and the Kolkata Night Riders on May 19, 2012 would be his last for domestic performances.

Ganguly talked to the owners of Pune Warriors IPL Franchise, Sahara, expressing his desire to leave the lush green fields of IPL though he had been on a contract of one more season to go.

"I had a wondeful time playing in the IPL for five seasons. It gave me a chance to keep playing top-class cricket even after quitting international cricket. But I can't go on forever, and I have requested the franchise owners not to consider me for IPL 6," Dada told a popular news daily.

What is sad is that this is the end of the 21 year career in which he struggled very hard to bring the team to the best of its performances. His first match in the career was against Delhi in a Ranji Trophy final in 1989-1990.

Earlier, talking to the Bengal Selectors, Ganguly said that he would retire from the first class cricket and asked them not to consider him for the upcoming match against Rajasthan.

He also said that he couldn't digest the fact that he can no longer make it to the Indian Cricket Team and decided that first-class cricket would do him no good. “I kept playing first-class cricket because you cannot just turn up for IPL without any sort of preparation," added Sourav.

He however was not parrying responsibility. "Bengal cricket is in good hands. It is good to see the likes of Manoj, Wriddhiman, Dinda, Sami and Anustup knocking hard on the selectors' door. I wish them all the best," he said.

He said that he would be 41 by the time IPL 6 was completed and that it was this age that couldn't keep up with the physical requirements.
