IPL: Vijay shatters Delhi-dreams, Chennai in finals

Captain Cool is the luckiest captain, say most cricket lovers across the nation. In the last league match in the fifth season of IPL between Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, my daughter an ardent fan of Sachin, was praying for RCB victory. On questioning her I said why she was worried about the match, when Mumbai was already in the top three. She instantly replied `Dad Dhoni is  the luckiest skipper and if Hyderabad wins then Mumbai will have to face Chennai and that will be an uphill task, in spite of Mumbai beating Chennai earlier in the leagues. Perhaps she was right Chennai beat Mumbai on Wednesday and yesterday in the play off no: 3 Chennai beats Delhi and goes on to final to meet Kolkata.

Yeah just getting back to the match between Chennai and Delhi at M A Chidambaram Stadium Chennai on Friday, Chennai shatters the dreams of Sehwag and co.  Delhi which dominated the IPL 5 season was at the receiving end and literally helpless against the willow power of Chennai’s wonder batsman Murali Vijay. Murali Vijay was at his peak in the penultimate match and scores 133 runs in 58 balls with 14 balls crossing the boundary line and four shots going above for six. True befitting player to grab Man of the Match honors.

Delhi won the toss and opted to field. Murali Vijay who opened the match for Chennai drove the Delhi bowlers crazy with his shots. There was no respite for them until he was run out by which time the maximum damage had been done to the visitors. Chennai ended up with a mammoth total of 222/5. Delhi on the other hand was bogged down with the huge target set by the home team and wound up to a mere score of 136 all out. Only the opener Mahela Jeyawardene scored a formidable 55, while others were whitewashed by Dhoni sena.

For the Chennai team the fielding was excellent and they grabbed 5 catches and 2 run out to deafeat their opponents. Not enough with his willow the man of the day even took 2 catches. Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed three wickets while Shadab Jakati claimed two wickets. On the whole the match was thoroughly dominated by the CSK. And if they maintain this stupendous form then their encounter with the Kolkata Knight Riders at Chennai, will surely fetch them the tourney trophy.  (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
