2nd innings for Irfan Pattan, not picked for Aussie Tour

Inspite of splendid performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy with a third time five Wicket haul for the Baroda Team, Irfan Pathan had been let down by the Board of Control of Cricket in India. BCCI failed to give a green signal and instead picked up Abhimanyu Mithun in place of injured Praveen Kumar. The left arm seamer Irfan Pathan had given many match winning performances during his stint in Team India. Irfan was the natural choice of the cricketing experts for the Australian tour due shortly.

“I would’ve definitely picked Irfan. His previous experiences in Australia would have been a boost to Team India. I don’t know why he wasn’t considered,” said a stunned Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram.  The fast bowling legend felt bringing back the buoyant Irfan at this stage would have been ideal.

Pathan, who staked a claim by picking up 21 wickets, including three five-wicket hauls, in four Ranji Trophy matches this season, was picked for the last two one-dayers against the West Indies, but found no favor when the panel sat down to select the squad for the Test series Down Under.

It is almost two and a half years since Irfan who was away from international cricket due to injuries and bad form. But off late is at his best while playing for Baroda in the Ranji trophy. May his second innings in the two ODI against West Indies on home turf help him achieve the best.
