Ishant Sharma emerged hero of the day

shanthIndia Smash indies in Day 2 of the third and final Test of the ongoing Caribbean tour as Indian pacer Ishant Sharma emerged hero of the day with 5/77. At stumps, India were 8/0, trailing the Windies by 196 runs. Resuming their first innings at 75/3, the hosts' slide continued with only Darren Bravo who made 50, and wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh, who added 60, offering some decent resistance.

The day began with the Windies employing their usual circumspect approach. But in just the 7th over of the day, Munaf Patel got the breakthrough when he had a shaky Shivnarine Chanderpaul caught behind for his overnight score of 23. The Windies had slipped to 84/4, hitting upon another familiar predicament.

Seven overs later and there was more trouble for the hosts as Praveen Kumar cleaned up Marlon Samuels for 9, making the score 99/5 in 46.1 overs. Then new batsman Carlton Baugh defied the Indian attack, joining forces with Bravo to put on 59 runs for the 6th wicket. Then Ishant struck again to have the latter batsman caught behind for 50 off a patient 134 balls.

Baugh and his new partner Darren Sammy upped the run-rate with some powerful biffs, as the score progressed to 199/6. But that's when the Indians hit back. Off-break Harbhajan Singh had Sammy caught at forward short leg for 20.

Then in between heavy downpours, Indian openers Abhinav Mukund and Murali Vijay comfortably played out four overs, with the score 8/0, before the umpires called "stumps".
