Honda CBR250RR & CBR300R Not Launching in India; Africa Twin to Enter

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) have confirmed that there won't be any launch of the much awaited CBR250RR and the CBR300R in India. However, certain other new products would make their way into India, confirmed Yadvinder Guleria, Senior Vice-President, HMSI.

The Honda official confirmed that none of the iterations of the CBR500 would make it to India and not even the long-in-the-market CBR250 would be replaced. Though sales of the CBR250R are low, it won't be replaced. The HMSI will also be making all its motorcycles BS-IV compliant and fit All Time Headlamp On (AHO), which is set to become mandatory.

However, both the Honda CBR300R and the CBR250RR (with the later unveiled only last week in Indonesia) will continue to be sold at showrooms in Indonesia. The top Honda official also confirms that the Japanese automobile giant plans to bring in the CFR1000L Africa Twin into India, which was displayed to their Indian clientele at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The Africa Twin will be brought to India as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) Units, just as the Manesar facility staff have been trained to assemble the unit. About 5% of local ingredients may be expected to be part of the Africa Twin, which will be assembled at the Manesar plant of the Honda.

The Honda Africa Twin will be powered by a 998cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, twin cylinder engine that develops 94 PS of power and 98 Nm of torque and will come mated to a six-speed automatic DCT. Dual-channel ABS, traction control, etc. will perform perfect braking duties, along with switchable multiple riding modes.
