Leander Paes and Martina Hingis Wins the ‘Grand Slam’ Title

Veteran Indian tennis star Leander Paes completed a Grand Slam after he won the French Opening mixed doubles title with his Swiss partner Martina Hingis. The duo won the match against Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig for 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 on Friday.

42 year old Paes proved that despite being the oldest player on the court, his alertness and presence of mind made a good difference to the outcome of the match.

This is the 10th time Paes is winning mixed doubles, while his partner Hingis has won mixed doubles for the 5th time. Paes has won Grand Slam title for the 18th time and  Hingis won for the 22nd time.

Both teams were forced to play their quarters and semifinals on Thursday due to a cramped schedule at rain-hit Roland Garros.

In men's doubles, American twins Bob and Mike Bryan won final with 7-5, 6-1 victory over Lukasz Kubot and Alexander Peya. The Bryans already owners of a record 16 Grand Slam titles in their event will face Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez of Spain, who won their semifinal against Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 on Friday.

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis were crowned the champions of Australian Open women doubles. The winners split 116000 Euros as prize money while Sania and Dodig got 58000 Euros as a team.
